The College Admission Counseling Unit at The King Faisal School assumes the responsibility of guiding high school students - especially eleven and twelve graders – and provide them with the required services and support in researching and identifying colleges that provide a good fit for their academic goals. The importance of standardized tests (SAT & TOEFL) as prerequisites for admission to most universities abroad is highlighted and deadlines and registration process are defined through several reachable hand outs and posters. Universities' promotional literatures, catalogues, flyers and pamphlets are also made available to the students and proved to be a good source of information that help students to better recognizing these universities. Private counseling sessions with parents are held to enlighten and help them explore the possibilities and options available for their undecided sons. Other counseling sessions are held with individual students to guide and help them formulate appropriate academic goals through their choice of HL subjects that correspond to their future majors. After reviewing students' college applications and essays, school forms (transcripts, certificates, letter of recommendations) are either uploaded through the Common App. or sent by DHL to the designated universities.
A good number of university representatives, local and international, meet with the students to brief them on their universities, majors, and admissions requirements. A large proportion of KFS graduates join universities in the United States, Canada and the U.K to major, mainly, in engineering and business administration. On the other hand, students wishing to join the faculties of medicine and pharmacy apply to local universities for undergraduate programs and plan for specialization abroad. In addition to the above, the Counseling Unit oversees and organizes educational summer programs for IBDP students in cooperation with Oxford Study Courses in England.
